Confessions of a Freebird - Midlife, Divorce, Heal, and Date Differently with Somatic Experiencing, Empty Nest, Well-Being, Happiness
I'm the author of “Sandwiched: A Memoir of Holding On and Letting Go” and a somatic relationship coach. I love helping women divorce, heal, and date differently in midlife or any stage—women looking for more happiness, joy, freedom, and purpose.
If you are ready to find more authenticity within so you can reclaim the life you left behind somewhere between diaper changes and kids graduating from school, tune in!
Have you ever asked yourself, “Is this all there is?” What’s life like as an empty nester? What's after divorce? How do I grieve the loss of a spouse who passed away? How do I date after a long relationship? How do I navigate being part of the sandwich generation? What is longevity and how do I take better care of myself as I age? How do I heal my trauma with somatic experiencing? How do I simply find more happiness and joy in my daily life? Then this podcast is for you!
I'm a mother of four adult daughters, a divorcée, and a recovering caregiver. My podcast, Confessions of a Freebird, is your midlife best friend. On this podcast, I'll offer actionable steps, coaching tips, soulful thoughts, somatic tools, and feature experts to help you with all things midlife and beyond. We will talk about sex, dating, divorce, loss, grief, midlife reinvention and empowerment, finances and so much more.
I also share my confessions and successes that have helped me intentionally redesign my life so you can skip the suffering I experienced and start making the most of your second or third act, one confession at a time.
Because every relationship begins with ourselves!
XO,
Laurie

Welcome to Confessions of a Freebird podcast. I'm your host. Laurie James, a mother, divorcee, a recovering caregiver, the author of Sandwiched A Memoir of Holding on and Letting go, a therapy junkie, relationship coach, somatic healer and now podcaster. I'm a free spirit, and here to lift you up on this podcast, I'll share soulful confessions and empowering conversations with influential experts so you can learn to spread your wings and make the most of your second half. So pop in those ear buds, turn up the volume, and let's get inspired, because my mission is to help you create your most joyful, purpose driven life. One confession at a time.
Hey there, Free Birds, Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. First, I wanted to take a minute to thank you for being here. I know you have many choices in the podcast world, and your time is limited, so thank you for choosing Confessions of a free bird. Second, I wanted to remind you I dropped two really great podcasts in the past two weeks that I have received really great feedback on, one is how to make the holiday suck a little less if you struggle with them. And last week's conversation with grief expert Krista Saint Germain, she had some really valuable insights on grief, and grief can be big and small, and then there's also primary and secondary grief that she goes into. Both are valuable, and if you're navigating the holidays with some trepidation, these are perfect for you. Third as you start the holiday season, I'd love to invite you to take a moment to do one thing, to thank yourself for all that you have done for yourself and for your loved ones in the last year. So often we get so wrapped up this time of the year about giving and gratitude for others and what we're thankful for, and all that it is focused on external things. So instead, if you can take a moment one morning, when it's quiet, or maybe right now, while you're listening to this turn inward, and think of one thing that you're thankful for, that you have either accomplished or processed this year.
And before I tell you my Thanksgiving joke. I wanted to lastly, share with you that I'd love to hear from my listeners on what you liked and what you didn't like. There is a one way texting capability, so please share it in that and I will also in the show notes, drop a little survey, so that way you can share with me what topics you like, what topics you'd like to hear this coming year, as I am starting to put together my schedule, my podcast schedule for that. And I love your feedback, and don't forget to please leave me a review. It's how other free birds find me.
Laurie James
So as I wrap up, my very bad Thanksgiving joke that you can take to your dinner and table is, What do cows do on Thanksgiving? They eat dinner and watch a movie. Oh, there's another one. What do sweet potatoes wear to bed? Yammies. So if you're looking for a bad joke to bring to your Thanksgiving dinner, there are two. And again, I appreciate you, and I appreciate you being here and listening to my podcasts, and I look forward to continuing to offer you relevant topics as you are healing in midlife, as you are learning to grow in midlife and continuing to spread your wings and making the most of your second half. Be well, my friends.
